Why G-Sports Sponsors Grassroots Volleyball in Nepal
Volleyball is Nepal's national sport. Here's why we invest in the community courts and school teams that keep it alive.
Volleyball became Nepal's national sport in 2017. It's played in schoolyards across Kathmandu, in village courts in Pokhara, and on temporary nets stretched between buildings during Tihar. It belongs to Nepal in a way few sports do.
And yet most of the courts that make Nepali volleyball possible run on borrowed equipment, donated nets, and jerseys that should have been replaced two seasons ago.
That's where G-Sports comes in.
Why grassroots, not elite
Most sportswear brands target the top — national teams, professional clubs, big tournaments. The marketing logic is obvious: visible athletes wearing your brand at major matches.
We do some of that. But the majority of our community investment goes to grassroots — school teams, neighborhood clubs, women's leagues, and community courts. Three reasons.
First, the national team didn't appear from nothing. Every player on Nepal's volleyball roster started somewhere — usually a school court, usually playing in whatever gear was available. The pipeline is the grassroots.
Second, grassroots access shapes participation. A school team with proper jerseys and nets attracts more players than one with patched equipment. More players means more athletes, more matches, more local interest. That's how sports communities sustain themselves.
Third, the impact per rupee is dramatically higher at the grassroots level. A complete kit for a school team — 12 jerseys, shorts, and a quality net — costs less than a single endorsement deal with a single national player. The team kit reaches 12 athletes plus their coaches, families, and audiences.
What our sponsorship looks like
We don't write checks. We deliver gear.
For school programs, this typically means a full match kit — jerseys, shorts, and warm-up tops — sized for the team, with the school name printed on. We also provide replacement equipment after roughly two seasons of regular use.
For community courts, we provide nets and balls. Nets sound simple, but Nepal's volleyball courts go through a lot of them. Sun, monsoon, and constant play break down even good nets within a year. A consistent supply makes the difference between courts staying open and courts going quiet.
For women's leagues, we provide tournament-grade kits. Women's volleyball in Nepal has grown significantly in the past decade, but funding for women's programs still trails men's. Closing that gap matters to us.
The teams we've worked with
Over the past few years, we've sponsored kits and equipment for:
- 15+ school volleyball teams across Kathmandu Valley
- Multiple women's community leagues in Lalitpur and Bhaktapur
- University programs at three institutions
- Tournament sponsorships at the district and inter-school level
We deliberately don't publicize each partnership with photo opportunities or press releases. The work isn't the marketing. The work is the work.
What we've learned
Three years into structured grassroots investment, a few things have become clear.
Quality matters more than quantity. Early on we tried to spread sponsorships thin across as many programs as possible. The result was teams getting one kit, then nothing, then asking for help again next year. We now invest deeper in fewer programs, with multi-year commitments. The teams that benefit get consistent support, and we get to see real growth.
Coaches are the multiplier. A great coach with mediocre equipment outperforms a mediocre coach with great equipment. Many of our long-term partnerships started because a coach reached out, ran a strong program, and built something worth investing in. We listen to coaches more than administrators.
Female participation needs different support. Mixed-gender programs often default toward boys' participation unless funding specifically targets girls. Direct sponsorship of women's and girls' teams produces visible results — more matches, more players, more competition.
Local pride compounds. A school team in proper kit wins matches differently than a team in worn-out gear. Confidence isn't an empty word in sports. The kit doesn't make the player, but the kit absolutely affects how the player shows up.
How to apply
We don't have a formal application process. Most of our partnerships start with a coach or community organizer reaching out to us directly.
If you run a school team, community program, women's league, or tournament that needs equipment support, get in touch. Tell us what you do, who plays, and what you need. We don't promise yes to everyone, but we read every message and respond.

What's next
Volleyball is our biggest grassroots category, but we're expanding into football and cricket in the coming year. The same principles apply: real teams, real coaches, multi-year commitments, and equipment that actually helps players perform.
Nepal's sports community isn't built by big tournaments. It's built by the courts and fields that keep going, year after year, kit by kit. We want G-Sports to be part of that. Quietly, mostly, but consistently.
